I used to worry I couldn’t draw more than a handful of things, but now I can at least draw two more things than before.

One of the fun things about working on custom journal covers is that it pushes me to draw things I don’t normally draw. It’s intimidating at first, but I try to take the pressure off by doing some sketches to get a feel for proportions and the overall look of what I need.

So here, have some practice sketches!

Fun fact: Elephants are one of my favorite animals! I’m kind of surprised it took me so long to try and draw one. I think my reverence for them as memory-keepers probably played into my fear of messing up. Turns out, their faces in general are pretty easy, although I never get their ears exactly symmetrical. Their bodies, on the other hand?! I think I need more practice…

I don’t usually consider myself good at drawing expressions, but maybe I should just draw everyone as a cat! The judgmental displeasure really came through here. I was surprised by whatever expression is on pentagram-pendant-kitty’s face, though. I didn’t know I could do that!
