A friend once surprised me with a package full of art supplies–including black paper and gel pens! I’ve always been too nervous to buy a black-paper sketchbook. I always eye them with anxious longing. Playing around with pastels and neons on my favorite background? It sounds like a dream!
But what if I didn’t make anything good?!
My friend’s gift gave me the courage to play around, to experiment, to just see what would happen. Along with the gel pens were some metallic crayons, and those had always been the envy of the art table in elementary school. So I set aside whatever I thought good art was and embraced the feeling of a crayon in my fist and paper under my hands and let myself play around.
